Are You Operating with a Proper Business License?
Ok, so maybe it isn’t the Fuzz asking you to roll down the window to have look at your license and registration but many business will soon find the long arm of the Tennessee Department of Revenue hitting their mail boxes with inquiries about their operations.

In case you missed it…
Well, we have some new tax laws on the books. Surprise! The biggest piece of the new law that will interest most people is the extension and additions to the homebuyer’s credit. Congress has seen some success with the previous new home buyer’s credit that gave $8,000 to homebuyers that hadn’t owned a home in 3 years.  Some economists think the credit and low interest rates have been propping up the housing market and they worry what may happen to the residential real estate market in the coming months since the credit was set to expire on November 30th.

Wine & Cheese Event

Every year we host a Wine and Cheese Event as an open house and client/friends appreciation function.  It is a great time to network and meet the people on the other end of the phone.  We invite you to come in, see our office, and have a great time.  A person from SumnerCrest Winery will be here, offering samples of the great wines they make just up I-65, and a person from the Hillsboro Chocolate Company will be here with several delectable treats that will tantalize your tastebuds. Also, the wonderful photography of Michael Moryc will be on display as our featured artist this year.  It starts at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5th.  We look forward to seeing you here!

Planning for the Future
The Future. What will it look like? In the 60’s, people envisioned a world like the Jetsons. Everyone zipping about in flying bubble cars that could fold up into a suitcase and structurally unsound apartment buildings that stretched far into the sky. In the late 80’s, we learned in Back to the Future II that in the future, we will still have flying cars, but they are a little more conventional. Every kid has a hover board, weathermen make accurate forecasts down to the second, and we have TVs that respond to voice commands while displaying 10 channels all at once. Conan O’Brien had his own view of the future as expressed through his recurring segment on Late Night called In the Year 2000. I was looking over the Wall Street Journal this morning and came across a good article on saving.for the future.

IRS adds a few new tricks to “help” people save money
Huh? Can that be right? The IRS wants to help me save money!? Well, sort of. The IRS seems to have a theory about taxpayers saving money: “If they don’t ever see it, then they can’t really spend it.” (Legal disclaimer: the IRS didn’t actually say these words). Tuesday, the IRS released several pieces of guidance to encourage taxpayers to save for retirement.
